The Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA) is set to convene the
first regional West African ADR Conference as part of activities to deepen the
awareness around Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) through high level
discussions about the effective and efficient management of commercial disputes
in West Africa and Nigeria.
The conference, which comes up on 5th November, 2013, is
themed ‘Disputes Arising’ and organized in partnership with The Investment
Climate Facility for Africa (ICF), will hold at the prominent Eko Convention
Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, and will attract
speakers and delegates within the Business and Law community in and out of
Nigeria.
Megha Joshi, Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer,
Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA), who spoke on the conference, said, “The aim
of this conference is to boost knowledge about arbitration and mediation options. The sessions have been structured so
participants can benefit from the experience of leading General Counsels and
experts, in key sectors in dealing with disputes arising, fast and effectively
to ensure business progresses without major disruptions”.
Speaking further, she stated that “as a major stakeholder and
provider of ADR services in Nigeria and West Africa, the LCA is keen to
facilitate a conference that will enlighten attendants of the many benefits of
ADR to ease the flow of business.
Joshi added that the conference will also offer a platform to
interact with key players and counterparts from other parts of the world as
well as opportunities to develop business relationships with high profile
business leaders doing business in Nigeria and other West Africa
countries.
The keynote speaker for the conference is Arnold Ekpe,
Director, Sovereign Wealth Fund and former Group CEO of Eko Bank Plc under
whose leadership became the first genuine pan-African institution. Speakers for
the conference are drawn from within and outside of Nigeria and are reputable
business owners and managers, and administrators of Alternative Dispute
