Osun’s Rauf Aregbesola, Katsina’s Ibrahim Shema, Lafarge Cement, and Others Take Home the SERAs Statuette


CSR Awards Admits Promasidor, Shell, 29 Others

The prized statuette for the winner of the Most Socially Responsible Company in Nigeria 2013 was taken home by Lafarge Cement in addition to the statuette for Design for Sustainability which represented the SERAs 2013 thematic focus.  The theme of the SERAs2013 focused attention on design and innovation for sustainability - “Shaping the Future Through Innovative Value Creation: Making a World of Difference”

The 7th Annual the SERAs was celebrated at the MUSON Centre, Onikan on Saturday September 21.
The executive governors of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola; and Katsina State, Dr. Ibrahim Shema received recognition awards  at the SERAs 2013 for strides achieved in their respective states in the areas of educational  and infrastructural development. The awards to the governors was presented by Honourable John Owan-Enoh, who chaired the occasion. While Aregbesola was present with his wife, Sherifat, to receive the SERAs Statuette. Dr. Shema was represented by Lawal Kankai Ibrahim, the Managing Director/CEO, Katsina State Investment & Property Development Co. Ltd.

Professor Pat Utomi, Founding Faculty, Pan-Atlantic University in his keynote address which was pre-recorded and broadcast at the event, challenged the winners in the 16 different categories:  “I want to say to those who have created this value that it is not just a celebratory thing for this moment; it is a learning, a learning for the future doing”.

Dignitaries present at the 7th Annual the SERAs in Lagos included: Joseph Hudson, MD Lafarge Cement; DhaneshGordhon, MD/CEO Nestle Nigeria, amongst a host of others.

Adedeji Ademigbuji of National Mirror Newspaper emerged the winner of the Tunmise Adekunle Award for Sustainability Reporting. The winner received in addition to the statuette, an ipad donated by Fidelity Bank. Fidelity bank took home the statuette for Youth-focused CSR.


BATN carted home two awards; the Ambassador Segun Olusola award for most outstanding CSR practitioner and Best Company in wealth and income generation. Guaranty Trust Bank was recognized as the best company in Child –Focused CSR while Domino Information went home with best company in the SME category.

Olam Nigeria also took home more than one awards at the event- the Best Company in Agriculture and the best Company in Supply Chain Sustainability. Cornerstone Insurance emerged the best company in Partnerships for Development.

Nestle Nigeria beat other nominees and took home the award for the best company in Environmental Sustainability. Shell Nigeria took home the SERAs statuette for impact made in the area of education. First Bank Nigeria got the best company in infrastructure; while the Most Voted Company award went to Etisalat.

The Nigeria Social Enterprise Report was also launched at the event. The launch was presided over by the dignitaries at the occasion and Mr. Ken Egbas; Managing Partner, TruContact. Honourable member of the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable John Owan-Enoh in his remarks endorsed the publication, underscoring the quality of research and writing that goes into the compendium annually.   He further recommended the report toall corporate organizations as well as individuals.
